Road Closures Possible Tomorrow

Safetravel.is has issued a warning to travelers for tomorrow. Very difficult driving conditions are expected in South Iceland, due to strong winds, snowfall and blowing snow. Road closures are possible between Reykjavík and Vík, on the Golden Circle, and from Skaftafell to Höfn í Hornafirði.

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert for the central hihglands and the southern part of the country, effective early tomorrow morning and through the evening.

In South Iceland, the warning will be in effect from 4 am tomorrow till 7 pm. An easterly storm with snow is expected. Wind speed near Eyjafjöll mountains and eastward will be 23-28 m/sec. Wind gusts near mountains could be in excess of 45 m/sec. Expect snow, poor visibility and deteriorating driving conditions.

In Southeast Iceland, an easterly blizzard is expected. The warning takes effect at 7 am tomorrow and is good through 8 pm. Wind speed will be 23-28 m/sec, and wind gusts near mountains could be in excess of 45 m/sec. Expect snow or blowing snow, poor visibilty and the possibility of road closures.

In the central highlands, an easterly gale and blizzard is forecast. The warning will be in effect from 4 am tomorrow till 11:30 pm. There will be blowing snow, limited visibility and hazardous driving conditions.
