Big Plogging Day Big Success
More than a thousand trash bags were filled during the Big Plogging Day on Sunday, according to Morgunblaðið.
The word plogging, combining plucking and jogging, simply means picking up trash while jogging - an activity gaining more and more popularity as awareness about global trash problems increases.
“This is way beyond our expectations,” organizer Einar Bárðarson states. Hundreds of people participated, among them Icelandic President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, First Lady Eliza Reid and Minister for the Environment Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson.
“This is a fun activity in good company and fresh air, and it’s also quality family time,” states Eliza.
