Short-eared owl spotted in Reykjavik
A short-eared owl was seen in Vsturgata in central Reykjavik yesterday. The bird was perching in a garden.
According to the director of the Icelandic Bird Society, Jóhann Óli Hilmarsson, owls are sometimes spotted in towns but this is fairly rare.
It was Hrönn Hjartardóttir, íwho lives in Vesturgata who took this photograph of a short-eared owl eating a starling yesterday. The owls mainly feed on mice and small birds.
There are three types of owls in Iceland: The short-eared owl, the long-eared owl and the snowy owl.
