Öræfajökull: Seismic unrest above average
A geologist at the Iceland Met OFfice explains that the current unrest in Öræfajökull volcano could continue for days, weeks, months and even years. Yesterday the Iceland Civil Protection released a statement that the volcano was experiencing clear signs of unrest.
Geologist Bryndís Ýr Gísladóttir says it's unclear whether this unrest will lead to an eruption but according to the statement, Öræfajökull is in a typical preparation stage before an eruption.
"We hava a 24 hour watch in all of Iceland just as always," says Gísladóttir.
