It seems that it's still common for tourists in Iceland to go to the lavatory outdoors in public instead of using public lavatories. Recently a farmer in North Iceland spotted a woman pooping in her field.

Farmer Dóra Sigurðardóttir from the Vatnsdalshóll farm was very offended by the tourist and decided to speak to her, she told mbl.is.  "I decided to tell her that I felt that she was disrespecting my country and pointed out that there was a toilet only 100 metres away."

The woman responded angrily and told her to leave, says Sigurðardóttir. "It's a problem here and all around the country. If they do this on our fields we can't cut the grass because there could be danger of infection for the animals. The hey is just ruined."
