The enormous iceberg sailing into Húnaflói bay became visible from the coast yesterday, from the Litla Ávík weather station in Strandir. The iceberg may reach the shore at Hornstrandir in the West Fjords, predicts the Iceland Met Office.
The ice sheet may bring with it the danger of polar bears who have crossed the ocean from the North Pole to Iceland, and a helicopter was dispatched yesterday to look out for them.
