Icelandic low-cost airline WOW air has announced orders for four brand-new Airbus A321 jets – taking their total fleet up to seventeen aircraft.

WOW air CEO Skúli Mogensen signed the deal today at the Farnborough air show in the UK. The list price for the jets, to be delivered in 2017 and 2018, is $459.6 million (ISK 55 billion).

WOW air currently operates eleven aircraft. This new order, together with others previously announced, will take the fleet up to seventeen – all from European manufacturer Airbus.

“WOW air is becoming one of the world’s strongest low-cost airlines and we look forward to continuing to grow and flourish in cooperation with Airbus,” says Mogensen.

The average age of the WOW air fleet is just two and a half years. As well as the A321, the airline also operates the shorter A320 and the wide-body A330.

According to a WOW air statement, the A321 was chosen because of its roomier passenger cabin, low maintenance costs, and fuel efficiency.
