It will now cost you ISK 500 (approx. €3.50) to park your car at Iceland’s famous Þingvellir National Park.

Parking charges came into force yesterday at the car park near the iconic Almannagjá rift. Despite a few teething problems, park visitors were generally happy with the new set-up.

The new few days will be spent checking the operability of the equipment, training staff, and assessing traffic flow and the location of payment stations and signs.

The parking charges (see below) will be used to fund the cost of running and maintaining the car parks.
