Sleep, Sergeant Ripley style: The first Pod hostel in Iceland

Due to ever increasing tourism to Iceland, the variety in accommodation is surging. One of the latest offerings are sleeping pods in true Tokyo style, in  a new hostel, the Galaxy Pod Hostel on Laugavegur.

The pods are strangely reminiscent of the pods used for long space travel  in Ridley Scott's Alien and are probably not suitable for claustrophobic individuals measuring 2 metres in length and a metre in width.

Hostel owner Sverrir Guðmundsson has been working on the project for three years and the hostel now offers 38 pods, hoping to increase them to 70 by next summer.

A night at the hostel costs five thousand Icelandic kronas, and rises to six thousand in the summer.
