PHOTOS: Sheep-herding in the snow
These wonderful pictures were taken by Ágústa Ágústsdóttir, who with her husband runs the farm at Reistarnes, Iceland’s most northerly permanently inhabited farm.
This part of the country actually receives relatively little snow, so the weather conditions of recent days and weeks have changed the winter routine for the husband and wife farmer team – and for their sheep.
Ágústa and her husband Kristinn are great believers in getting their sheep out into the fresh air as often as possible, even in the depths of winter. Recent heavy snowfall has turned this into a special challenge – but the duo are undaunted.
As the weather calmed on Thursday, Ágústa and Kristinn saw a window to get out to their sheep and herd them back home. They used a tractor to cut a path in the deep snow for the sheep to follow as the winter sun hung heavy in the sky.
