Icelandair jet makes unscheduled landing
An Icelandair jet made an unscheduled landing in Toronto, Canada, last night after a malfunction occurred in the aircraft’s electrical system.
The incident occurred two hours into a flight from Washington, USA to Iceland’s Keflavík International Airport (KEF). The decision was taken to make an unscheduled landing in Toronto for safety reasons, according to Guðjón Arngrímsson, Communications Officer for Icelandair.
160 passengers were on board and efforts are currently under way to put them up in hotels or find them alternative flights to Europe. Two Icelandair aircraft will be flying to Toronto this afternoon to bring passengers to Europe.
Repairs on the aircraft involved are expected to be completed today.
