Pick of the best brunches in Reykjavik
There's a great variety of fantastic brunches on offer on weekends in Reykjavik, from small quaint restaurants to fancy hotels. Here's our pick of the best to suit all tastes, in no particular order.
1. The Coocoo's Nest
Coocoo's Nest in the Grandi harbour area is a tiny restaurant situated in an old fish warehouse and owned by an Icelandic/ Californian couple. The cuisine at the Coocoo's Nest is inspired by California and they offer a fantastic San Francisco style brunch on weekends as well as the Italian version of happy hour, aperitivo.
A fairly new and very elegant restaurant in the Fosshótel hotel in Borgartún, the city's financial street. Haust offers a sumptious buffet suitable for families or groups of friends offering a selection of dishes ranging from classic English and American breakfast to healthier options such as smoothies, seafood and vegan options. Perfect for that special occasion.
3. Hverfisgata 12
Trendy Hverfisgata 12 is one of the most famed pizzerias in town and has great DJ's on weekend nights. It also offers a fantastic brunch on weekends, with breakfast pizzas, dishes such as sumptious smoked trout on sourdough bread with farm-fresh poached egg and, well, something for everyone of all ages.
4. Bergsson Mathús
Jamie Oliver's favourite place to brunch. Offers a cosy , relaxed atmosphere and healthy, home style and very delicious food. "Honest food" is how they describe their cooking and it's one of the most popular brunch spots for locals.
5. Kex Hostel
The wonderfully eclectic, laid-back Kex Hostel is a place you can literally hang out at all day and all night. Now they also offer a yummy brunch to suit all ages on weekends including things such as pancakes, egg on sourdough toast, sausages and their famous Freedom burger.
