Reykjavík Jazz Festival Opens Today
The Reykjavík Jazz Festival opens today and continues through September 4. Founded in 1990, this annual festival is the second longest running music festival in Iceland. It hosts performances in a variety of styles, from contemporary jazz and the avant-garde to Latin jazz, gospel and big bands.
A total of 39 concerts are scheduled during the festival, which will be held at several locations in Reykjavík, including Harpa Concert Hall, Jörgensen Kitchen & Bar, Reykjavík City Hall, Mál og Menning at Laugavegur 18, and Fríkirkjan church.
Performing at the festival will be Iceland’s leading jazz musicians, as well as guests from abroad, including the Kathrine Windfeld Sextet, the Ambrose Akinmusire Quartet, the Broken Cycle Trio, Svaneborg Kardyb, the Kadi Vija Key Project, and more.
