The Icelandic naming committee, who review all new names not on the register to be given to babies have now rejected a demand to name a baby girl Ladý. This is the second time that the given name Ladý is rejected.

According to the decision the name Ladý does not comply to stipulation 5 in Icelandic naming laws and that Lady is used as a salutation in English just like Sir and Madam.

Other names rejected by the Icelandic naming committee were Leonardo, Yrena, Gleymérei and Myrká.

Names Reyla and Mortan were however acccepted.

It should be noted that if one parent is of foreign origin the rules to rejecting foreign names do not apply.
