Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir receives Nordic Council literature prize
Icelandic author Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir received the Nordic Council literature award last night.
She is one of two Icelanders to receive a Nordic Council award last night in Oslo. Benedikt Erlingsson received an award for his film Woman at War.
"This is quite a rollercoaster ride for sensitive writer's souls, we're not particularly fond of the stage or television," said Ólafsdóttir speaking to mbl.is from Oslo airport.
"I'm incredibly pleased, especially for my publishers in the Nordic countries, because they are small publishing companies and it's a struggle. I'm not a best-seller really, maybe this will help them a little."
Her novel, Ör, (Arrow) is about life, death and love. Her next novel, Miss Iceland will be published at the next of this week. "It's about those times when men were born poets and women were invited to take part in the Miss Iceland beauty pageant."
