Iceland’s 2017 Secret Solstice music festival got under way yesterday evening, in an atmosphere of excitement in beautiful Icelandic summer weather.

Among the acts were bands SSSól and Stuðmenn, which have both been prominent in the Icelandic music scene for decades. SSSól was everything expected, a lively stage performance and all the old hits. Stuðmenn however decided to make a twist on their well-known music. They were joined by American musician and producer Printz Board, best known for playing with the Black Eyed Peas. The outcome was an interesting twist on a music that's been around for ages in Iceland.

The legendary Chaka Khan was last on stage on this first night of the festival. It truly is amazing how many high notes that woman can sing in the space of an hour. She of course finished up with her hit songs, Ain't nobody and I'm Every Woman.

The concert ended just before midnight, under a midnight sun which lit up the night like it was the middle of the day.

A photographer from mbl.is [Iceland Monitor's syster media] was at the event and took the pictures below.
