A new survey by Gallup shows that 15% of teenage girls aged 12- 17 regularly use tanning beds, despite the fact that the legal age to use a tanning bed is 18.
Tanning beds, once hugely popular in Iceland, seem to still retain considerable popularity.
A typical tanning bed user, according to the survey, is a woman aged between 18- 24 with a high school education earning less than 250 thousand ISK a month.
The survey was conducted for a new awareness campaign on the risks of damage cause by UV rays which lead to premature aging and can cause skin cancer.
