Scenes from Fast 8 – the latest instalment of the Fast and Furious movie franchise due for release in 2017 – are to be filmed near Iceland’s famous Mývatn lake.

According to northern Icelandic news outlet 641.is (link in Icelandic), filming is set to begin on 14 March.

Three warehouses have been erected near the area and a 40-hectare section of the lake is being swept clear of snow where a driving-on-ice scene is to be filmed. Other scenes will include a car going through the ice and an under-ice explosion.

Fast 8 is directed by Gary Gray and produced by Neal H. Moritz.
