As we approach the first heats of Söngvakeppnin 2016 – the preselection event to choose Iceland’s entry for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest – there is a flurry of activity among participants to produce videos promoting their songs.

We already have acoustic versions, English versions, subtitled versions and, well, ‘crazy’ versions – and there is still over a week to go until the first semi-final!

This is a lyric video for Hugur minn er, performed by Erna Hrönn and Hjörtur Traustason:

An atmospheric acoustic version of Ótöluð orð by Erna Mist and Magnús Thorlacius:

Check out this English-language version of Karlotta Sigurðardóttir’s Óstöðvandi:

And how about this appropriately eccentric new video for Kreisí (an Icelandicised spelling of ‘crazy’) performed by Sigríður Eyrún Friðriksdóttir?

A total of twelve songs will compete in two semi-finals on 6 and 13 February, with the pick of the crop battling it out in the final to be held on 20 February. The overall winner will be Iceland’s entry to the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in May in Stockholm, Sweden.
