Christmas is over, which can mean only one thing – Eurovision season begins!

The twelve songs competing for the honour of representing Iceland in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest have been released and are now available to listen to on the Eurovision page of national broadcaster RÚV’s website.

The songs were premiered on Icelandic radio this morning.

Iceland’s national selection event – know in Icelandic as ‘Söngvakeppnin’ – takes place on 6 and 13 February (heats) and 20 February (grand final). The hosts are Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir og Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir.

Tickets go on sale at midday (Icelandic time) on Tuesday 19 January on tix.is.

There is a special feel to this year’s Söngvakeppni as 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of Iceland’s first ever Eurovision appearance, when ICY performed the now iconic ‘Gleðibankinn’ in Bergen, Norway (see below).

The twelve participating songs can be heard here (link in Icelandic).
