Iceland’s first ever Olympian in women’s gymnastics

Iceland’s Irina Sazonova has secured a ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games – the first female gymnast in Iceland to do so.

Qualification heats took place in the Brazilian city earlier this week and Sazonova smashed the required qualification score, ending the competition 39^th out of 66 competitors.

Sazonova’s total score was 52,391 (13,866 on the vault; 13,533 on the parallel bars; 12,866 on the beam; and 12,666 on floor) – well above the 49,133 she actually needed to qualify for Rio.
