Iceland’s new Foreign Minister Lilja D. Alfreðsdóttir told the United Nations (UN) Security Council on Wednesday that the world must “act together urgently as a community” to counter the threats of extremism and international terrorism.

In a speech entitled ‘Countering the narratives and ideologies of terrorism’, Alfreðsdóttir told delegates that “all our societies potentially harbour individuals who instigate and nurture ideologies which can be turned into a justification for violence and terrorism”
