Strikes: flight disruption possible
Flight disruption is not out of the question if a strike by Icelandic electricians goes ahead as planned on 10 June.
One of the unions set to down tools next Wednesday is the Icelandic Association of Electrical Industry Workers (RSÍ), whose members include electrical and electronic engineers at Keflavík and Reykjavik airports (KEF and RKV). These workers deal with lighting within the airports and, crucially, flight navigation equipment.
“We are looking into if and how this will affect air transport,” says Guðni Sigurðsson, Communications Officer at Isavia, Iceland’s airport and air navigation service provider.
