The two individuals found dead at the Reykjavik Edition Hotel yesterday were French tourists, and the third person, who was seriously injured and transported to hospital, is also French. She has now been designated a suspect, and the case is being investigated as a homicide. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time.

This was confirmed by Ævar Pálmi Pálmason, assistant chief of police, in a statement to mbl.is. He noted that all three men had been traveling together.

Pálmason declined to comment on whether any weapons were found at the scene, where in the hotel the incident took place, or who reported the matter to the police. He stated that the investigation is now focused on establishing a clear picture of the sequence of events. According to him, the case is progressing well, though it remains in its early stages.

Update:

A French woman in her fifties was remanded in custody until June 20 at the request of the Capital Area Police, on the grounds of investigative interests, in connection with the investigation into the deaths of two French tourists at a hotel in downtown Reykjavík.
