Lots of accidents in Reykavik due to icy paths and streets
The head of the ER at the National University Hospital in Iceland says that an unusual amount of accidents occurred due to people falling on ice.
Jón Magnús Kristjánsson thinks that people are not realising that paths and sidewalks are icy already.
The first day of ice was last weekend and according to Kristjánsson there's been a steady stream of patients at the ER with injuries related to falling over on ice.
He would like to urge pedestrians and cyclists to take great care and to use spikes available to clip onto shoes and boots. He also advises people to put salt or sand on their entryways or steps.
