Breiðholtskirkja Church in Reykjavik will on 13 May offer free weddings for the second time. Last year the church had a drop-in-wedding day, where couples could drop by and get hitched. The event was extremely popular. So popular that this year, people wanting to get married for free will have to let the priest know in advance so everyone will get their place by the altar.

There will be one large ceremony conducted by Þórhallur Heimisson, the local priest. The local organ player will organize the music and pretty much everything else is in hands of volunteers. Couples are reminded to prepare the paperwork necessary beforehand.

Heimisson got the idea in Sweden, where he used to live. Wedding of this kind were popular in his congregation in Sweden, so he decided to try it in Iceland where it seems to be no less popular.
