Axe-wielding man stopped in central Reykjavik

A man was apprehended in central Reykjavik on Friday afternoon after brandishing an axe and threatening passers-by.

When police arrived ar the scene, the man had been brought under control by citizens. The axe was in its cover and the man told police that he has just bought it.

He was taken in for police questioning, but as no injuries were caused, nobody pressed charges. However, the man is likely to be charged for offences under Iceland weapons legislation, which ban carrying sharp weapons in public for non-professional purposes.
