Third Degree: "Happiest at the seaside."

Designer Hildur Yeoman hosts an exciting show tonight combining fashion, art and music. We put her through our Third Degree of the week.

Tell us about the exhibition in one sentence?

It takes place in Seltjarnarnes, in the old medical museum at 8 pm and its an exhibition that explores the state between waking and sleeping with music, art, dance and fashion.

What made you choose fashion design?

Short answer: Vanity. Long answer: It's an exciting means of expression, I chose fashion because I felt free to observe things that could be categorized as low-brow or pop culture. I started in Fine Art but it was so high-brow that I did a U-turn. But I suppose the fine arts have stayed with me because I can't set up a show without a concept, and it's not enough for me to design for beauty and functionality. There always has to be more to it.

What‘s the strangest thing about being in the fashion industry?

The fast pace.

Your most treasured possession?

My health and my family. And if I had to mention a material thing it's the silver ring from Kría which was a present from my man.

What‘s your idea of a perfect meal?

Boiled haddock with potatoes at my grandparents' house.

Who would you invite to the meal, of anyone living or dead?

My best friends. I need to do one soon. Gran, are you ready?

What is your favourite place in Iceland?

Whenever I go to the seaside and to the beaches, then I'm at my happiest.

Artist/ designer that you look most up to?

Anselm Keifer, Antonio Lopez, Cristopher Kane and Beyoncé.

The outfit that has most influenced your life?

I spent my childhood wearing Oilily.

What are you listening to right now?

Warpaint, Beyoncé and Samaris.

Favourite item of clothing?

My lovespell dress.

Favourite café/ restaurant in Reykjavik and why?

Tíu dropar on Laugavegur, they have old-fashioned rolled up pancakes and it's cosy.

What‘s your least favourite trait of Icelanders?

Their short-sightedness with regards to politics and environmental issues.

What‘s the best thing about living in Iceland?

The nature and my friends.

What keeps you awake at night?

I wish I knew. I sometimes just can't seem to turn off.

If you could move anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would that be?

I honestly would most want to live in Iceland, but to be able to travel a lot.
