Icelandic competitors took first place in both the men’s and the women’s sections of the Meridian Regional (Europe and Africa) qualifying competitions of the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games.

Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdóttir won the women’s section and Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson won the men’s section of the Europe and Africa regional qualifier held in Madrid, Spain, at the weekend.

The top five competitors in each section qualify to the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games finals, to be held in California on 19-24 July.

While Guðmundsson was the only male competitor to qualify, Iceland’s women dominated the event, taking first, second and fifth place – three of the total of five qualifying places for two whole continents.

Annie Mist Þórisdóttir was second and Þuríður Erla Helgadóttir, fifth.
