A phone virus caused a scare on an Icelandic ferry this morning as one of the passengers received a text message saying there was a bomb on board.

A student on a school trip to the Westman Islands off South Iceland received the bomb threat while on the ferry crossing. The student immediately contacted the ferry operator, who contacted police.

The police conducted a bomb search when the ferry reached its destination, but no explosive device was found.

Unconfirmed reports now suggest that the text message was the result of a virus in the student’s mobile phone.
