The Reykjavik police officer arrested over the holiday period is suspected of leaking information – and even taking payments for such – over a period of years.

The amounts involved are not thought to be very high and they will be no moves to keep the officer in custody. The Chief of the Reykjavik Metropolitan Police will be looking into whether or not the officer will be discharged from his duties.

The police officer was arrested on 28 December and his initial period of custody expires tomorrow. There will be no application to extend his detention.

A second man arrested in connection with the case and suspected of having dealings with the police officer is to remain in custody.

The investigation is reportedly still at a very early stage.
