A photograph of a young woman wearing Chihuahua mittens has caused some uproar on Twitter in Iceland. "It warmed my little heart to see and try on these  mittens knitted from the coat of my little Gosi who died two years ago," wrote the girl on her Facebook page with the photograph and adds that she really misses him.

Mbl.is confirmed this weekend that the mittens were indeed knitted from Gosi's fur. "It wasn't my dog, he was my cousin's dog so the mittens have sentimental value to me," said the young woman to mbl.is. The dog's owner also contacted mbl.is and explained that the family had collected hairs from the dog while it was alive and that her mother had knitted mittens out of them.

The young woman who posted the photograph up on Facebook is saddened by people's response on Twitter. "I never expected this to happen," she said and is unhappy about the prejudice people show in such a delicate and personal matter. Sge adds that she's received some particularly nasty comments on social media. "I didn't know about the mittens until this weekend. It's always hard to say goodbye to a loved one, even if it's only a pet, and it was comforting for me to feel the warmth of his fur once again."
