Local news outlet Skagafréttir reports that a fast ferry service will be available from Reykjavik to Akranes this summer.
It's sailing company Sæferðir that will be running the service and the sailing time will be around 25 minutes each way.
Around 50 - 100 passengers can be accommodated on the ferry which does not, however, take cars.
Akranes is a small harbour town which offers attractions such as a beautiful lighthouse and a long sandy beach called Langisandur which is popular for bathing and recreation in summer.
