New unique colour variant in Icelandic horse has appeared
A unique colour variant was discovered in the Icelandic horse recently. The only horse yet to have this colour is the stallion Ellert from Baldurshagi. The colour is called "ýruskjóttur" in Icelandic which translates to drizzled skewbald or pied.
Genetic research was conducted on Ellert which shows that he has a new genetic trait which causes the coloration. This was reported in Iceland's agricultural magazine Bændablaðið.
Ellert is the only horse in the entire world of this colour, says Dr.Freyja Imsland, a genetic expert.
