The Icelandic Met Office has just declared a possible risk of avalanche in South Iceland, as it's been snowing heavily in the area over the last couple of days. Adding to that, a storm is raging over the country today.
The weather forecast today predicts raining and further snow today, which can create circumstances for a so called wet avalanche. There is however no risk in inhabited areas right now.
The Met Office and the Police are monitoring the situation closely, and evaluate whether to take action. The area being monitored is primarily around Kirkjubæjarklaustur where snow has come down heavily in the hills above town over the last days.
