A passenger jet operated by Icelandic low-cost airline WOW air was hit by a flock of large birds as it approached Baltimore last Monday.

The jet landed safely, although cabin crew reported a loud noise as the birds struck. At least one of the birds was ingested into one of the aircraft’s engines, causing some damage.

The birds are reported to have been large, white, and looking like geese. According to Aviation Herald, the incident resulting in the aircraft still being on the ground yesterday – a week later.

According to WOW air, repairs were due to be completed last night. “The incident had only a minor effect on WOW air scheduled flights, as we immediately brought in a lease aircraft,” says WOW air spokesperson Svanhvítur Friðriksdóttir.
