Severe weather closes stretch of ring road

A stretch of Iceland’s national ring road in South Iceland will be closed today from 2pm due to severe weather conditions.
The road will be closed between the Markarfljót river and the Breiðamerkurlón lagoon, according to information from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration.
Weather conditions will sharply deteriorate first in the south, followed by eastern parts around 5 pm, then North and North-West Iceland around 7 pm, with strong winds and snowstorms.
Greater Reykavik and South-West Iceland are expected to dodge the worst of the weather, but winds will pick up nevertheless as the afternoon wears on.
