Icelandair dominant in US

Icelandair is bigger on the American market – in terms of the number of weekly flights and destinations this summer – than SAS and Norwegian combined.

Passengers can choose from Icelandair flights from eight Scandinavian airports to Keflavík International Airport (KEF), with connecting flights to fourteen destinations in America and Canada.

According to Icelandic aviation website Allt um flug, SAS is offering a total of 27,748 seats per week between Scandinavia and America. This figure is now overshadowed by Icelandair’s offer of over 36,000 seats per week.

Icelandair is operating 101 flights a week from KEF to thirteen destinations in America this summer. Boston and New York (JFK and Newark) are both served by three flights a day.

Destinations 14 and 15 are already on the cards: Icelandair flights to Portland begin tomorrow and a new service to Chicago is planned for autumn 2016.
