Dark Music Days at Harpa

Dark Music Days, taking place January 28th to January 30th is a festival of contemporary and new music which takes place during the darkest period of the Icelandic winter. The aim of the festival is to brighten up the mood of the audience and the participants in the winter darkness.
The festival, which is one of the oldest music festivals in Iceland, was founded in 1980 by the Society of Icelandic Composers as a platform for Icelandic composers to present their work. Today the festival is a platform for performing and getting to know new music with an emphasis on new Icelandic compositions and performers in addition to international artists.
This year’s programme makes a point of showcasing interesting and entertaining works, the majority of which will premiere at the festival. The diverse programme ranges from solo to chamber concerts, from percussion to electrical concerts.
Amongst performers are the CAPUT group, Nordic Affect and the Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra, premieres of new electronic works and an installation by artist and musician Þóranna Björnsdóttir.
