Deaf Icelandic chef wins international contest
Icelander Unnur Pétursdóttir was the winner of the international Deaf Chef cooking contest in Valby, Denmark yesterday. The contest is, as the name implies, solely for chefs that are hearing impaired.
In an interview with Morgunblaðið last week Pétursdóttir said, "A chef's work is taxing and very busy but it's got nothing to do with being deaf."
Pétursdóttir, who is only 21 years old works as a chef at the prestigious Lava restaurant at the Blue Lagoon in South Iceland. She was born 100 % deaf and can only detect extremely loud noises.
