The Old Harbour area in the city centre has undergone somewhat of a transformation in recent years. It is part of the Reykjavik Municipal Plan for 2010- 2030 intending to reclaim the former connection between the city centre and the harbourfront.

The area goes from the stunning Harpa concert hall to the former blue industrial houses at the harbour front and stretches further towards the wonderful new Maritime museum and the Grandi industrial area which is also springing to life.

The cheerful blue houses by the harbourfront contain everything from cafés, bars, restaurants, tourist shops, design shops and even a cinema and they're located right in front of bustling tourist services such as whale watching trips, puffin watching trips, dinner cruises and bike and scooter hire.

Iceland Monitor took a walk through this vibrant area, a must-see for any visitor to the city, on a warm summer Friday.
