From January 1st, Hlemmur at the top end of Laugavegur shopping street will close permanently as a bus central. Instead, the City of Reykjavik will be beginning renovation to transform the building into a food market.
Bus passengers should also note that from November 1st Hlemmur will close at 7 pm on weekdays and on weekends it will close at 4 pm.
The City of Reykjavik has yet to select from applications to run operations at Hlemmur. The advertisment for applications stated that an operations manager would have to supervise changes to the role of the building in collaboration with the City, choose restaurants and shops, obtain licences and manage all marketing and PR.
Bus tickets previously available at Hlemmur will be obtainable at the 10-11 shop across the road, on Laugavegur 116, as well as online on straeto.is and on the mobile Strætó app.
