Blackmail: “PM did not buy paper”
Rumours that the blackmail case reported by Iceland Monitor this morning has to do with the Prime Minister’s alleged involvement in funding the purchase of a well-known Icelandic newspaper have been strenuously denied.
Icelandic news website Vísir claimed earlier today that the two women arrested for blackmailing Prime Minister, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, were trying to get him to buy their silence over his alleged financial dealings with Björn Ingi Hrafnsson, publisher of DV newspaper.
“The Prime Minister did not fund the purchase of DV,” states Hrafnsson. “Today’s news is extremely distressing.”
The two women involved have admitted to sending the blackmail letter to Prime Minister.
