Festival celebrating the election of Europe's first female president
The government accepted a proposal this morning to allocate 4 million ISK for a festival celebrating 35 years since the election of Europe's first female president, former president of Iceland Vigdís Finnbogadóttir.
Finnbogadóttir served as the fourth President of Iceland from 1980 to 1996. With a presidency of exactly sixteen years, she also remains the longest-serving, elected female head of state of any country to date.
The festival will take place on Arnarhóll in the city centre on Sunday June 28th. The event is organised by The Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages in cooperation with the Icelandic Parliament, The City of Reykjavik and numerous other associations.
