Recently, throngs at Keflavik International Airport have been reported. Increase of passengers in July and August double the numbers expected. An extension to the airport is currently being built and a new 5,000 square metre building to the south will be completed in March.

Long queues are to be expected at KEF International Airport in the mornings, in the afternoons and at midnight until September with the biggest stress points being Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Passengers travellling on those days have been urged to arrive at the airport three hours before their flight.

In an announcement from the airport, the reasons for these queues stated to be the setting up of new barriers at security, staff training and an extremely large number of tourists travelling to and from the airport.

The airport will also be extended to the west by 3,000 square metres and the arrival hall will be extended by 700 square metres.
