Passengers to check in 3 hours early

Isavia, the airport authority which operates Keflavík International Airport (KEF), is advising passengers to arrive in plenty of time for their flight, owing to bottlenecks currently affecting security checks at the airport.

The airport is said to be having some difficulty dealing with increased passenger numbers, particularly at peak times.

“Passenger numbers have increased greatly, exceeding even the most optimistic forecasts,” explains Guðni Sigurðsson, Communications Officer at Isavia. “There are crowds in the mornings, particularly on Thursdays and Sundays.”

Passengers are therefore advised to arrive at KEF in good time for their flight – maybe 2.5 or even 3 hours before their scheduled departure time.

New security gates are being installed but are not yet operational. “These new gates will make a huge difference when they come online,” says Sigurðsson.
