British low-cost airline easyJet is to add a seventh UK airport to its list of destinations from Iceland, with a new service to London Stansted (STN) opening this winter, reports Icelandic tourism and travel website turisti.is.

easyJet began services to Iceland just over three years ago with flights to Iceland from London Luton (LTN) and has since added five other UK airports to their Iceland schedule.

The new Stansted route will be flown twice weekly and cheapest tickets will cost around ISK 7,500 (approx. €50), with extra charges for hold luggage.

The airline expects some 13,000 passengers to use the route annually.

56 flights a week to London

easyJet’s new Stansted route adds to an increasingly competitive playing-field on the Reykjavik-London route.

By February 2016, there are expected to be 56 flights a week from Keflavík International Airport (KEF) to London. There were just 19 in February 2012.

The highest share of these 56 weekly flights will be operated by Icelandair (22). Next comes easyJet (16), WOW air (15), then British Airways (3).
