The annual Miss Iceland competition will be taking place this Saturday 5 September. The winner will be flying out to China to represent her country at the international Miss World competition on 19 December.

The competition is loved by some and frowned upon by others. The Miss Iceland competition this year, however, appears to be enjoying considerable popularity, with over 19,000 following the competition’s Snapchat account.

The 24 contestants vying for the opportunity to represent Iceland in China have spent the last three months meeting up, practising and enjoying the experience together.

Their focus is fixed squarely on the national final, taking place on Saturday in Reykjavik’s Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre.

Iceland is among the world’s most successful countries in the international Miss World competition, with three victories (1985, 1988 and 2005).

You can meet this year’s contestants here.
