16 Dec 2014 A storm with heavy snowfall is raging in the city and people are strongly advised to stay indoors and avoid all travel by car. Parents are asked to pick up their children at the end of the school day to make sure children get home safely.

15 Dec 2014 Snow and strong winds are expected tomorrow, Tuesday in South and West Iceland with winds up to 18-23 meters per second. The Icelandidc met office warns that visibility will be bad and that driving conditions will be poor.

11 Dec 2014 Iceland has been pummelled with an unusual amount of snow in the past days and week. The northern town of Akureyri is no exception. On his usual walk to work this morning, photographer Einar Guðmann took these pretty amazing photos of the snow-covered houses.

10 Dec 2014 The Road Administration's road map of Iceland is looking rather Christmasey at the moment with most of the roads coloured in red. Red on the map means unpassable and green roads are passable. As you can see, few green roads are left on the map.

Snow and bad visibility in the city

10 Dec 2014 Traffic in Reykjavik is slow this morning as there is a lot of wind with snow blowing across the streets causing bad visibility. Drivers are urged to drive slowly and carefully. The weather has caused several minor road incidents this morning. Pedestrians are warned not to walk in Höfðatorg and Borgartún near the tall buildings as the winds there are dangerous.

There will be bad driving conditions on mountain roads in the southwestern part of Iceland i.e. Hellisheiði, Þrengsli and Mosfellsheiði.

8 Dec 2014 The icelandic civil protection has issued a warning. Increasing southeast wind with snow, sleet or rain, first in the southwest. There will be bad driving conditions on mountain roads in the southwestern part of Iceland i.e. Hellisheiði, Þrengsli and Mosfellsheiði and low visibility and windy this evening until midnight.

Don't travel tonight and secure all loose objects in your garden or balcony. A storm is coming this way - yet again.

8 Dec 2014 A violent storm is expected towards the evening and into the night. The Icelandic met office has issued a storm warning with of winds expected up to 40-50 m/s in Kjalarnes and under mount Hafnarfjall in South-East Iceland accompanied by snow and sleet.

5 Dec 2014 The snow's here to stay - for a while at least. According to the Icelandic met office there will be frost for the next couple of days which means that the snow won't melt. However, they warn of icy patches on roads and walking paths.
