Confirmed cases of Covid-19 were 188,291 last week according to the website covid.is . That means that half of the population in Iceland has been infected with the virus.

"These are the numbers for those with confirmed cases of Covid. There are quite a few more who have been infected with the virus," says Þórður Guðnason, the Chief Epidemiologist  of the Icelandic Directorate of Health.

He says that around 100 new cases of Covid are detected every day. It is very possible that more are infected with the virus and wait it out at home without being formally tested or giving information to the Health authorities. That means that Covid is all over the society. "We have acquired a good herd immunity, because otherwise the situation would be much worse."
